empowering people's voices through inclusion.
About Me
I am a freelance Dementia Advocate with 8 years’ experience of supporting people living with Dementia. My approach to collaborative working is to listen, ask and act on. I believe in empowering people’s voices through inclusion, discussion and support. I have a ‘lived experience’ through supporting my beautiful G-ma through her end of life journey living with Vascular dementia, I have professional experience of supporting individuals living with dementia through peer support and working with organisations delivering training, consultancy and advice to assist in the development of dementia services always focusing on hearing the voice of people living with dementia in all we do.
This practical approach has empowered me to understand the need to listen, to ask and to be appreciative of everyone's personal experience and input. It has taught me how to facilitate meetings to ensure we hear everyone's voice and most importantly to listen, to be inquisitive and to understand that we do not have all the answers but together we can make a huge difference when finding them.
I am learning every day and I thrive on understanding the many ways we can support people, I hope to assist others to understand the importance of engaging with people, to feel confident to ask questions and to embrace stepping out of our comfort zones to ensure we empower people living with dementia to have a voice and to live the life they choose.
How do we support people ?
We support individuals living with dementia though co-facilitated peer support;
Using innovative technology, we host weekly ZOOM meetings for different groups of people to come together as friends first and foremost but also to share experiences, tips and strategies which has developed into essential peer support. We have created this space together, it provides a time to discuss everyday issues that affect daily life when living with dementia.
We have been supporting a project to set up Peer support groups throughout East Sussex, these sessions are run by people living with dementia for people with dementia, we co-facilitate the meetings, help with the admin and organizing dates and logistics.
We work closely with organisations wanting to develop their dementia services, to include the voices of people living with dementia in their organisational development. Together we adopt an inclusive approach to developing a dementia strategy that will meet the needs of everyone involved. We have collaborated with people living with dementia to develop training and resources on bespoke topics and co- delivered this material to a broad ranging audience.
We have provided advocacy by supporting individuals to attend conferences, meetings, strategic planning sessions, attend trips out and take part in bespoke projects.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Aimee. She is energetic, enthusiastic, compassionate and totally committed to supporting people with dementia to live better lives. She has a bubbly personality, a lovely manner and great sensitivity to the needs of individuals.
